Organizational Behavior Essay Example for Free
Organizational Behavior Essay The official language of Japan is Japanese. The official religion is Buddhism. A meal always has rice, even breakfast. White rice is called gohan. Meals often consist of gohan, a bowl of pickles called tsukemono, a bowl of soup, and a variety of other dishes like fish, meat, and vegetables. This is called okazu. Since Japan is an island country they consume a lot of seafood including squid, crab, octopus, shrimp, whale, lobster and seaweed. Slurping your soup or noodles shows the Japanese that you are enjoying your meal. When doing business men should wear dark and conservative attire. Shoes should be easy to remove as this will be done often. When using a bathroom in someoneââ¬â¢s home, you will be required to wear a specific pair of slippers before using it. Women should wear low heeled shoes to avoid being taller than men. Pointing is considered rude. It is custom to arrive late, punctuality is not expected. Money is not openly displayed, use an envelope. The number fourteen is bad luck, it sounds like the Japanese word for death. Business and personal gift giving is very important and should be done at the end of the visit. Business cards should be printed in your home language on one side and in Japanese on the other. A bow, not a handshake is the proper way to greet. EGYPT In Egypt the predominant religion is Islam. Foreigners are expected to dress modestly, do not wear Egyptian clothing. Jackets and ties are required for men, women must also dress modestly. Egyptians stand very close to each other, moving away from them is seen as an act of aloofness, however, opposite sexes stand further apart than we do in the United States. Showing your shoe sole is considered an insult to the other person you are meeting, do not cross your legs during your meeting. Smoking in public is very common, present and offer your cigarettes. Arabic is read from the right to the left. Books begin on what Americans consider to be the last page. Business cards should be printed in Arabic on one side of the card, and in English on the other side of the card. BRAZIL In Brazil, Portugese is the official language, although others speak Spanish, Italian, and other languages. No official religion is listed, however most Brazilians practice Roman Catholic. Brazil is the worldââ¬â¢s fifth largest country in population and landmass. Half of Brazilââ¬â¢s population is under the age of twenty. When conducting business three piece suits should be worn by men and women, and womenââ¬â¢s nails should be manicured. You should avoid wearing the colors green and yellow together, as it is the colors of the Brazilian flag. The okay hand signal is considered rude; to express appreciation you should pinch your earlobe between your thumb and forefinger. Schedule all appointments at least two weeks in advance, to them, time is money. Never discuss business before your host does. Brazilians entertain business cliental in a restaurant, never in their homes. Gift giving is not required. When sending a bouquet of flowers, avoid the color purple as it used for funerals. Tipping in Brazil is very common and is usually about ten percent. When greeting, handshaking for men is very typical while women exchange kisses by placing themselves cheek to cheek and kissing the air. When greeting the other person using titles are very important to them. When you are trying to strike up a conversation with them good conversation topics are soccer, their families and children. Conversation topics to avoid are politics, religion, and the rain forest. After reviewing these three countries and there cultures I would have to say that Japan would be the country with the most employment satisfaction. Although very populated, Japan passed a constitutional law just after World War II that gave women the right to choose their occupation. Since that law, more women have gone into the workforce and received the education and training possible to hold high end executive jobs that were once held by man alone. Even though Brazil and Egypt have higher levels of women in the workforce most of the jobs are domestic, like cleaning and cooking. References http://www.cyborlink.com.[Retrieved] January 14, 2013.

Patient`s Laws Essay Example for Free
Patient`s Laws Essay Patients should feel at ease when giving personal information to their physician or nurse (Burkle Cascino, 2011). Patients may resist offering pertinent information if they feel their confidence may be betrayed. Confidentiality can only be broken when it involves a gunshot wound, injuries resulting from child abuse or an infectious disease, which would put the community at risk. Such is the case presented in Nathansonââ¬â¢s article titled: ââ¬Å"Betraying trust or providing good care? When is it okay to break confidentiality?â⬠(2000). The article addresses an ethical dilemma presented in an episode of NBCââ¬â¢s ER. Nurse Carol Hathaway promises two reluctant teenage patients who are seeking care, that anything they tell her will remain confidential, even from their parents and anyone else. Agreeable to this, the girls divulge they have been sexually active with multiple partners and suspect they have been exposed to a sexually transmitted disease (STD). Tests were performed on the teenager for STDââ¬â¢s and receive Pap tests to detect any cervical abnormalities. The test results confirm, Andrea, is positive for the human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cancer. Promising Andrea confidentiality, Nurse Hathaway knows she must break the promise or potentially endanger herself and the community. Nurse Hathaway is faced with ethical consequences if she breaks confidentiality with her patient. Of these consequences are reluctance to disclose pertinent information, feelings of betrayal, enraged parents, disrespect of staff members, job termination, demeaned hospital reputation, poor school reputation, and a non supportive bureaucratic and legal system (Burkhardt Nathaniel, 2008). Nurses are fearful of these ethical implications, which keep them from disclosing important information, which can have disastrous results (Griffith, 2008). Deontology best describes Nurse Hathawayââ¬â¢s ethical framework when she finds it necessary to break Andreaââ¬â¢s confidentiality. The deontology theory is based on the concept that a person adheres to what is right and wrong in their actions and thoughts rather than the consequences (Purtilo Doherty, 2011). Since this has become a public issue she is compelled to fulfill her duty by courageously choosing to bring the situation out in the open. Her reasoning for informing Andreaââ¬â¢s parents and school would ensure the appropriate course of treatment and avoiding further injury for the teen and society. Even though Nathanson saysà there is no advantage in notifying the school of Andreaââ¬â¢s sexual involvement with multiple partners, Nurse Hathaway chose to do so. By doing this, Andrea attempts to take her life when she finds out the school is aware of her situation. There are several ethical decision-making models to choose from but the best would be Uustalââ¬â¢s model to handle this particular situation. Uustal proposes a nine-step method to direct one toward making an ethical decision. This model follows the nursing process and also includes and explanation of values when using and ethical decision-making model. Step 1) those implicated in the dilemma are the teenage girls, their parents, the students at the school and Nurse Hathaway. Whether or not to inform the school of the sexual behavior of the girls and of Andreaââ¬â¢s diagnosis is the ethical dilemma at hand. Step 2) without giving specific information about the girls, the school needs to be aware of the studentââ¬â¢s sexual conduct with multiple partners. Step 3) the spread of HPV and the concern for the protection of the community from STDââ¬â¢s related to promiscuous sex are the issues related to the situation. A resolution to the dilemma would to inform the school of the concern for the sexual behavior of the students. Step 5) with good intentions, Nurse Hathaway notifies the school of the girlââ¬â¢s activities but should not kept their identities anonymous and only discussed her concern for the students in general about their participation in multiple sex partners. Step 5) implementing education in the school regarding the risks, treatments and prevention of STDââ¬â¢s would follow. Step 6) the main priority should have been informing the school of the promiscuity among the students rather than of the two teens in question and Andreaââ¬â¢s new found diagnosis. Step 7) Nurse Hathaway should have only discussed her concern for sex with multiple partners between the students. Step 8 and 9) if Nurse Hathaway had followed th is model, education could have occurred, the school would have been protected and Andreaââ¬â¢s privacy would have been respected. This particular model allows for the analysis of various options to sensitive, ethical dilemmas. An ethics committee consists of of representatives from different fields in and outside of health care as well as professionals, lawyer, clergyman, etc., from the community. With different perspectives, experiences, and educational backgrounds the committee can have a well-rounded discussion and provide suggestions proposed to advocate for the rights of patients and foster mutual decisionà making in the event of an ethical dilemma. When conflicting moral claims are presented, the ethics committee can suggest an unbiased approach to solving the ethical dilemma (Burkhardt Nathaniel, 2008). Consulting with an ethics committee would have been in Nurse Hathawayââ¬â¢s best interest before deciding to break confidentiality. Had she not divulged pertinent information about Andrea to her school, Andrea most likely would not have attempted suicide. In conclusion, as nurses we are confronted with ethical dilemmas pertaining to upholding confidentiality in our day-to-day practice. Ethical decisions should not be taken lightly and treated exclusively with sensitivity for our patients and the public. Making the wrong decision could cost us the trust we build with out patients and community and our job. Burkhardt, M. A., Nathaniel, A. K. (2008). Ethics issues in contemporary nursing (3rd ed.). Principles of Systems Design and Engineering
Principles of Systems Design and Engineering A decent systems designer ought to consider the majority of the practices of a systems overall in the connection of its surroundings is the systems viewpoint. They need to consider and see the systems in a comprehensively approach as opposed to decaying the systems into separated parts consequently verifying collaboration among the systems and nature happens bringing about fruitful finishing of the venture. Human relations: For a single person to be effective in his way he ought to have the quality to be socially capable and keep up great human relations. As a systems engineer he brings all orders of building under one cloud and structure a systems and verify it streams according to plan by keeping up and decreasing the contentions among the distinctive divisions. Data and information: Technically a systems designer ought to have great aptitudes in parallel to the administrations traits. Specialized discernment ought to be an innate quality to be an effective systems engineer. Having sound learning about the methodology guarantees the specialist to plan for the procedure in this way making the systems dependable. Creative energy and inventiveness: Imaginative and innovative aptitudes characteristics the systems design in arranging and anticipating impediments for the stream of the systems. He ought to have the capacity to judge and expect the issues and be prepared for its answers so that there are no unsettling influences in the Objective judgment abilities: Time is a critical component for the systems to effective. A fit systems specialist ought to have decision making ability capacities and target arranged. Taking choices in the opportune time is as essential as taking right choices. A systems engineer has a comprehensive methodology while customary designers are bound to just there zone of ability. A systems specialist have grasp on the aggregate extend and need to have learning and data with respect to all phases of the venture while conventional architect degree is limited to just their separate territory, for example, outlining, fabricating, investigation and so on. A systems specialist outlines the periods of the task, while the conventional architect lives up to expectations in those stages. The systems architect suspects future blocks and get prepared with exchange answers for verify the methodology is not irritated while conventional specialist meets expectations inside their limit successfully. Spontaneous creation of the methodology of a venture is taken care by the systems specialist while extemporization of the specialized angles will be carried out by customary architect. A systems architect meets expectations both on the specialized angle and in addition deals with the venture, while conventional specialist does provide food just the specialized prerequisites of the undertaking. Technical Performance Measures (TPM) are quantitative qualities (evaluated, anticipated, and/or measured) that depict systems execution. These speak to basic specialized cut off points and objectives for accomplishment of the venture. It empowers us in making a procedure of foreseeing the future variable of a critical specialized execution parameter of the larger amount finished item a work in progress in view of current appraisals of items lower in the systems structure. Specialized Performance parameters helps in qualifying the whole systems and let us know how the execution of the systems at each one stage subsequently keeping any potential dangers for the venture. The parameters utilized as comparators are gotten from investigations or tests. By contrasting the first values and these we can judge the present position in this way taking the separate measures for the systems to be fruitful. By having these parameters under control we can intermittently measure and profile the first values and check whether they fall inside as far as possible or can promptly anticipate the possibility. With the assistance of TPMs an association will have the capacity to do helplessness evaluation and also result appraisal accordingly hazard evaluation could be possible at the early phase of the undertaking to backing suitable edge allotment. At last, TPMs can likewise be utilized for the expectation of achievement or it gives in advance the data of the venture when it is beneath the situated edge. Select a system and describe the following characteristics of that system: (i) Purpose (ii) Intended customer (iii) Stakeholders (iv) Components (v) Resources (vi) Environment in which system is developed and used. Let us consider a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) in order to describe the following data and how the system follows in its stages Ref: http://www.halomonitoring.com/ Purpose: The reason for this systems is to give the important civilities to the people particularly senior subjects if there should arise an occurrence of foes. Intended customer: In all probability senior citizens, medically unstable, youngsters and so forth Stakeholders Ambitious people keen on restorative field. Components: The individual crisis reaction systems comprises of medicinal caution gadget which can be worn much the same as a watch or can be worn around neck at the comfort of the client. Such gadgets need to join with the neighbourhood web so as to transmit information to the concerned persons when required. The part comprises of a battery which needs to routinely charge relying on the utilization of the gadget. Single SOS catch makes it less entangled even to the elderly individuals or outwardly weakened people. Resources: A crisis call focus is the real backing to the gadget. At the point when the gadget is actuated physically or naturally the individual tries to contact the separate individual parallel to the crisis reaction group. With the assistance of GPS accessible in the gadget the crisis reaction group (EMS-Emergency Medical Services) acts immediately based upon the prerequisites at first accessible in the server about the work force utilizing the gadget. The guardian additionally alarms the people under the ICOE (In Case of Emergency) contact. One focal point of this gadget is, it consequently makes an impression on the contact officially sustained into the systems about the circumstances. Environment in which systems is created and utilized: The systems is created as the quantity of situations where individuals are left unattended because of no correspondence. It is perfect for elderly individuals living alone or for working folks with little youngsters being left in their room. Select a system of your choice and develop operational functional flow block diagrams (FFBDs) to the third level. Select one of the functional blocks and develop maintenance functional flows to the second level. Show how the maintenance functional flow diagram evolves from the operational flows.

David Hicks Speech :: essays research papers
à à à à à David Hicks was a 34 year old black male. He was on death row in Texas from December of 1987 to April of 1988, sentenced to die by lethal injection for rape and murder, on April 25th 1988, of his 87-year-old grandmother, Ms. Ocolor Heggar. David was only a suspect because he was near her house at the time of the crime. There was no indication that he had been insideà ¡Xexcept, for DNA evidence. The DNA test determined that similarities between sections of DNA removed from Davidà ¡Ã ¦s blood and DNA recovered from semen in Ms. Heggarà ¡Ã ¦s house would occur only one time in a total of 96 million people. à à à à à On the evening of Ms. Heggarà ¡Ã ¦s death she was alone in her house. Eddie Ray Branch, her grandson, testified that he visited his grandmother on the day that she was killed. He was there till at least 6:30 p.m. Lester Busby, her grandnephew, and David Hicks arrived while her grandson was still there and they saw him leave. They then went in to visit with Ms. Heggar. While they were there, Lester repaid Ms. Heggar 80 dollars, which he owed her. They left around 7:15 p.m. and went next door to a neighboring friendà ¡Ã ¦s house. David Hickà ¡Ã ¦s went home alone from there to get something but returned within ten minutes of leaving. Because he was only gone for 5-10 minutes, prosecution theorized TWO attacks on Ms. Heggar because he could not have killed his grandmother during this 5-10 minute period alone. At 7:30 p.m., 15 minutes after the two had left, an insurance salesman called to see Ms. Heggar. He knocked for about 2 or 3 minutes and got no reply. Her door was open but the screen door was closed. Her TV was on. He claimed to have left after about 5 minutes and then he returned the next morning. The circumstances were exactly the same. With concern, he went to the neighborà ¡Ã ¦s house and called the police. His reasoning for being there was because the grandmotherà ¡Ã ¦s family had taken out burial insurance three days before she had died. David had strong ties and a compact relationship with his immediate family. During the course of the trial, the evidence was presented which seems to clear him: ââ¬Å¾h Several hairs were recovered from the victim; tests revealed that they were not from David Hicks. One was found to be consistent with Asian hair, another consistent with Lester Busby, the grandnephew.

Of Mice And Men :: essays research papers
The same gun is used in the same manner to kill two beings, a smelly, old dog and a man named Lennie, in the novel "Of Mice And Men." This story deals with love and death while displaying an everyday scenario about friends and isolation. The symbols in this book represent the basic elements of human love. Some of the characters in this novel, such as Lennie, Crooks, and Curleyââ¬â¢s wife, epitomize loneliness. Lennie, bearing his retardation, has trouble fitting in with the current workers at the ranch. Even though all the ranch hands praise Lennie for his hard work, they leave him out of nightly activities such as horseshoes. George, Lennieââ¬â¢s traveling buddy, is smart and fits right in with all of the employees of the ranch, adding to Lennieââ¬â¢s isolation. The black stable hand, Crooks, sleeps alone in a tiny room in the stable and is disliked by everyone except for Lennie. Since he is black, segregation is the ultimate reason why no one tries to like or befriend Crooks. Lennie, who, as an innocent person, has no bigotry in him, visits Crooks one night when everyone else is in town. Even thought Crooks does not show it, he enjoys Lennieââ¬â¢s company, and it seems that he and Lennie form a small friendship that would had developed more has the book been longer. Anot her soul not included with the ranch clique, Curleyââ¬â¢s wife, whose name is not mentioned in the book, is new to the ranch as well. She married Curley just weeks before Lennie and George arrived. The ranch hands do not accept this lonely soul into their social group because she is new. However, the ranch hands also do not accept Curleyââ¬â¢s wife because she obviously is so lonely that the only way she can get attention is by flirting. The only one who does not dismiss her when she flirts is Lennie who is obviously trying to make a friend with another lonely person. These lonely individuals make this novel into a very sad story of real life situations of when people really do not "fit in." The idea of obtaining a little farm with animals and crops raised by George and Lennie, and later joined by Candy, an old man, shows how dreams may cause a man to do anything to fulfill that dream. Lennie is the most enthusiastic and determined to gain the small farm and the all-important things -- the rabbits.

The Fourth Amendment Essay -- essays research papers
Article VI The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.â⬠ââ¬âU.S. Constitutional Amendments Preface I choose the fourth amendment for two reasons: - It recognizes a right that, inevitably, cannot be taken away from a person. - It was not written out of spite, but out of experience. I personally feel like this is an issue that, had there not been a provision in the Constitution, would have created some serious issues with the colonists. The Fourth Amendment also almost gives the idea that there should be no problem with a person leaving his/her door unlocked, for the fellow citizens should honor the space of one another. History The Fourth Amendment came almost directly from experience of the colonials. But it wasnââ¬â¢t introduced only as a fundamental right, but also as a major part of the English ideals as well. In England, ''Everyman's house is his castle'' was an honored phrase, enforcing the idea that it is not only is it a law, but a right that cannot be delegated by any government idea. There are two major cases where this idea was tried. Semayneââ¬â¢s Case and Entick v. Carrington. Semayne's Case Accused of denying access to officials, Semayne exercised the right of a homeowner to defend his ...

Comparison Between Rousseau and Plato
I think Rousseauâ⬠s most effective criticism of Platoâ⬠s is on the importance of family. Both philosophers have opposing views on this issue; however I tend to agree with Rousseauâ⬠s view on family mostly because it is more reasonable than Platoâ⬠s. Rousseau also seemed more concerned that people enjoy life whereas Plato seemed too tied down with the idea of making the world just, that he forgot about individual happiness. According to Plato there should be no such thing as family. Instead we should all be men born of the earth. Everyone according to Plato should think themselves to be everyone elseâ⬠s brother or sister. He thinks that children should be removed from the mother upon birth so no attachment is made between mother and child. In speaking of peoples ââ¬Å"education and rearingâ⬠Plato writes: ââ¬Å"If by being well educated they become sensible men, theyâ⬠ll easily see to all this and everything else we are now leaving out-that the possession of women, marriage, and procreation of children must as far as possible be arranged according to the proverb that friends have all things in common. (423e) Again he reiterates the idea of having all things in common when he writes: ââ¬Å"All these women are to belong to all these men in common, and no woman is to live privately with any man. And the children, in their turn, will be common, and neither will a parent know his own offspring, nor a child his parent. â⬠(457d) Rousseau firmly disagrees with Platoâ⬠s view on family. He thinks that having strong family values is the key to becoming a good citizen. Since Rousseau is all about taking the natural approach to education, his view on family values make sense. Family is quite obviously in accordance with the laws of nature. A mother gives birth to her child and according to Rousseau it is only natural for the mother to nurse the child herself. That is the first natural bond that takes place within the family thus it is necessary in forming a close family unit. This is seen on page forty-six when he writes: ââ¬Å"But let mothers deign to nurse their children, morals will reform themselves, natureâ⬠s sentiments will be awakened in every heart, the state will be repeopled. â⬠If you stop here this goes completely against Platoâ⬠s belief that only certain women are made to be nurses and therefore only those women should nurse children. But Rousseau goes on to say: ââ¬Å"Thus, from the correction of this single abuse would soon result a general reform; nature would soon have reclaimed all its rights. Let women once again become mothers, men will soon become fathers and husbands again. â⬠Maybe Rousseau exaggerates this idea that by mothers nursing their children family values will be set in place. But to an extent I think this is true, because it is the first way a mother can care for her child, and by having someone else do it for her she is giving up this sacred bond a mother should have with her child. Rousseau says: ââ¬Å"We are born weak, we need strength; we are born totally unprovided, we need aid; we are born stupid we need judgment. Everything we do not have at birth and which we need when we are grown is given us by education. â⬠(pg. 38) This education no matter how you look at it starts in the home, and with the family. If a child is to grow someone needs to be there to guide them. And without a proper family a child will never be educated properly. Rousseauâ⬠s theory on family is much more realistic than Platoâ⬠s. Without having family values or even knowing who your real family is how is one supposed to learn to love and care for one another? If we lived as Plato would like we would not know what it means to have a close family because everyone would literally be considered your family. There is no way that you would develop the same feeling of love as you would by living in a family as most know it today. Or family in the sense that Rousseau writes about. Plato was more concerned with the city being just then the individual, so in that context his wanting to eradicate the natural family makes since. But his education follows that everyone be a professional at one trade. In my opinion that is no way to live life. To spend your whole life perfecting one thing, and never experiencing what it is to love. Rousseau took a much different approach believing that education was accomplished through centering on each person individually. The way a child is raised quite obviously affects who they are when they grow up. If they grow up in a family with strong values children learn if nothing else how to love and respect others. By learning these values ideally they will one day pass the lessons along to a family of their own.
